You may see the seal on our website, you may even see the acronym come up when shopping around bulk bag distributors and manufacturers, but do you know what it stands for?

FIBCA stands for Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container Association and is the largest consortium of FIBC suppliers and manufacturers in the world. They hold two yearly conferences that serve as a connection point for member companies.

Who Makes FIBCA?

FIBCA has over 100-member companies that comprise the organization. They are primarily bulk bag manufacturers and distributors in the United States, however, there are members outside of the US as well.

In order to be a member of the organization you must:

  • Be involved in the bulk bag industry as a manufacturer or vendor of bulk bags
  • Have at least $1,000,000 in liability insurance (allowing for protection against claims arising from product related injuries)
  • Pay a one-time $500 fee and $2,500 annual membership fee

Scale & Mission

FIBCA and its members operate on 5 continents in 26 countries and have done so for 35 years. The scale, scope and reach of the organization continues to expand as its member companies grow.

The organization has two primary missions as stated on their website (click here to visit the site):

  1. Motivate customers to use FIBCs to maximize their profitability, safety, and sustainability.
  2. Educate its members about regulations and standards, promote the use of their products, and to be a strong voice for the FIBC industry with the regulatory agencies around the world.

The organization has taken up the mantle of safety in a big way in creating the industry standard for Safe Handling Guidelines.

Impact & Importance

The direct impact of the organization is hard to measure, however it’s easy to see how important it is to the industry. FIBCA allows bulk bag companies to collaborate and share knowledge regarding industry trends, new products, and most importantly, the rules and regulations that they are subject to around the world. Staying up to date on these rules and regulations is paramount in this globalized industry. FIBCA now has an advisory board that assists in communication between the associated members and FIBC consumers.

There is also a sense of legitimacy applied to all members of the organization. If you’re in the market for FIBCs, look for the FIBCA seal. If they’re a member, you’ll know they have gone through the vetting of the membership process and are a trusted provider of bulk bags.
