As a bulk bag buyer you have many options when looking for a FIBC (Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container) supplier but how can you make sure you’re buying from a trusted source? There are many factors to consider and one important factor is membership status with FIBCA.
What is FIBCA?
The Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container Association is an association created in 1983 by a collective of bulk bag companies. It was originally created to deal with regulatory bodies that controlled the standards and regulations regarding the shipping of products domestic and abroad. Today, they are continually committed to educating the public on the benefits, uses, and safe handling of FIBC bulk bags.
FIBCA’s mission is to motivate customers to use bulk bags in order to:
- Maximize their profitability
- Insure safety and proper handling
- Encourage sustainability
- Educate members about regulations
- Educate members and encourage higher standards
The organization also promotes the use of its member’s products and is a strong voice for the industry with regards to regulatory agencies around the world.
Why is Supplier Membership Important to You?
Manufacturing and distributing FIBCs that have many uses and applications means that your supplier should have knowledge of a wide variety of rules, regulations, and certifications that pertain to your FIBC. These include but are not limited to the manufacturing processes themselves as well as the shipping and distribution of the products.
Membership is another way to gauge your suppliers level of engagement in the industry and if they’re paying attention to the latest trends and regulations. Whether it’s the changing regulations surrounding GSFI standards for food grade bags, or fine-tuning best practices for bag quality testing, members engage in discussions that can lead to a better overall experience for the customer. The result is a more informed FIBC partner that gives you confidence in your purchasing decision.
Look for the Seal
If you’re already purchasing bulk bags, ask your supplier if they’re a member. If you're researching a new supplier, look for the seal shown below.

Safety and reliability is our number one priority. Each bulk bag that we sell has a safe working load (SWL) – with the most common being 2,200lbs and 3,000lbs. To make sure the product you’re packing will not exceed the SWL of the bag you’re interested in, you’ll need to know the bulk density of the product you’re packing as well as the cubic foot capacity of the bulk bag.
